The First 20

Well, I did it. I ran a 20 mile training run.

Afterwards when The KoB asked how it went, I said... it was good till it wasn't. And as I went through my mile splits out loud, when I mumbled a 12:40 around mile 18, The KoB let out an actual laugh. Yeah, that's right.

Seriously though. In the grand scheme of things, the run was actually pretty decent. I mean, even with that 12:40 mile (and another mile that was right around 12:00), my overall pace for the run was a 10:04. That's totally a win.

Now, if I can just make it through a couple more 20 milers before my marathon, I think I'll be in OKAY shape for the marathon.

I have to admit that I'm pretty happy with myself for FINALLY sticking with a training and getting back into shape. I'm still not back to where I want to be, endurance-wise. But, I feel like I'm getting stronger every week. Hopefully I can keep this up and this Fall actually train for something pace specific. One day and run at a time...

Most training cycles, my 20 milers are always very predictable -- the first one is UGLY, the second one is more comfortable, and the third one's usually pretty solid. Way to knock that first one out, ugly or not!
