Weekend Running

So, I ran 11.2 miles on Saturday and 10 miles on Sunday and neither of those runs were very fun or felt easy. WHY OH WHY then don't I just bail on the marathon I'm signed up for this weekend?

What I should be doing...

I mean, I'm not trained for it, AT ALL. I will likely spend a lot of the day walking the hills and hating my life. I was pretty convinced by the end of my run on Sunday that I was just going to bail on the race this weekend.

But, I have been bailing on my running for awhile now. I was supposed to run the full in Cincinnati in 2014, and I just ran the half. I was supposed to do R2R2R at the Grand Canyon in 2014 and I just did the R2R. I was supposed to run the full in South Carolina in March 2015 and I just did the half. And sadly, there are probably others that I'm not thinking of right now. So, bailing has kind of been my MO lately and frankly, I need to snap out of it.

Is it going to hurt? Yup.
Is it going to be boring? Yup.
Is it ridiculous? Yup.
Is there a guarantee that I'll finish? Nope.

But, I HAVE to start it. And I have to push myself to try and finish. I haven't ran a marathon since Baton Rouge 2013. That is C-R-A-Z-Y. The marathon has become a distant memory for me and I'm sad about that. I want to get back to the days of jogging marathons and having fun doing them JUST BECAUSE I CAN and not because I'm chasing a goal.

So... yeah, here I come marathon. It's not going to be pretty, but dammit, I'm going to do it.

I haven't trained either. We'll be fine.

The marathon's a distant memory for me, too. You're making me feel really guilty.

Nice Bitch and I will hang out with you for part of it. Do you want me to bring a flask?

I don't think I realized it's been a while since you did a full! My last one was Monkey in 2012. I keep thinking about doing another full, but it'd have to be one where I don't train for any certain speed. I'm all about the doing it just because I can. Though I may not even be able to do that until after grad school. :(

I didn't comment when I originally read this, but I heard myself basically quoting it out loud to a friend last night -- I want to run my marathon in 2.5 weeks because I CAN and because I like running. I certainly won't run the whole thing (my long run was a 12 mile slog this past week), but I believe I can finish (with some walking), and so why not??? Not everyone can do that (physically, financially, free time), not everyone wants to that, but I can and I do, so I WILL!
