Race Report: Running to Beat The Blues 5k

The race that should be called... Running to Become Blue Because You Miss Your 5k PR by a total of 1 Freaking Second and The Two Girls Who Own You in Your Age Group Were There and Beat You Again.

Hmm... I have a feeling that wouldn't look too good on a t-shirt.

Yes. I finished this race with a time of 24:33. My 5k PR? Yeah, it's 24:32. Could I have ran 2 seconds faster and beaten my PR... No.

This race kicked my ass. I couldn't remember what my actual 5k PR was (I know... it's a problem). But I did know that my splits for the PR were 7:55. So, I knew I had to do better than 7:55.

I started off well... too well, I think... I had a 7:50 first mile. I seriously think that is the fastest I've ever run in my entire life. The next mile, I followed a couple of hot dudes and managed a 7:54. But that is where it all fell apart folks...

After the second mile, I felt like I was going to die. And not my typical overly dramatic "oh I'm going to die." But seriously die. I tried to push myself to keep on keeping on. But I was fading. My stomach was knotted with side stitches and my legs were dead and heavy.

I ran that 3rd mile in 8:01. The longest 8 minutes of my entire life, I tell you.
So, yeah... I finished in 24:33. Big freaking deal. I did however... place 3rd in my age group. Behind the two chicks ahead of me in the Grand Prix. Arg!!!!!!!!!
The goody bag should have had tequila and a prozac in it.

One second away from your PR is still awfully good!

Those race pictures are great. If I may say so, you are looking very thin and toned! (Much better pictures than the one at the Loveless Cafe.... I chuckled at your description of yourself.)

At least aches and pains aside it was only 1 second behind and not minutes...and dang girl...look at those sexy legs!!!

1 sec, wow that is close. look at it this way, you managed to almost break a 5K pr at the end of your marathon training. you are getting faster!

Spike has it right. Marathon training is not the time to be hitting 5k PRs. I know it's tough for you since you went from one marathon season straight into the next, but just think how smokin' your 5k time will be when you take a couple months away from distance training!
