Week One Recap

One down...17 to go! Ain't no thang!

I had a great first week of training with zero slacking. If you know me, you know that zero slacking (when it comes to running) is kind of a big deal. I followed Coach Hal's plan to a T and got in 30 miles for the week, including a hill workout, a pace workout and a 10 mile long run on Saturday. I even did my strength training last week. I am on a roll, baby!

I even forgot my headphones on Saturday so I had to go without my tunes for my long run. I feared it would be a very long run, but actually the time just flew by! It was a nice change of pace (no pun intended) to be more aware of the beautiful and serene environment all around. I like to call it Reflective Running. Quiet and reflective running is also good for eavesdropping on other runners' conversations. That's always interesting.

So while I'm excited about my progress, I can't pretend that I'm not disappointed about not dropping a few pounds (like I'd hoped and expected). I know that I'm building muscle back up and that muscle weighs more than fat, but I've been going pretty strong for a couple of weeks now and the scale hasn't budged. That is so freakin frustrating.

I have this fear that I've reached that age where losing weight is no longer (relatively) easy. You know what I mean? I've always heard that it's harder to lose weight when you get older. So does this mean that I'm at that age?? I'm not sure I can handle that. Can you see that I'm freaking out here?

Maybe I should go on a long, reflective run to calm down...

Oh my god. I never even thought about the fact that the ten pounds I gained since january have been so stubborn is because I am getting older. Gees, this sucks!

Yeah, it does get a bit harder to lose the weight, but since you are such a success at this running gig, then all it will do is spur you on. That is what happens to people who are successful at things.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write back to me. Hearing from people that really know what they are doing in this area is such a help. Kayce

Sounds like you are off to a great start...that's awesome! I hate the getting older thing - not sure what THAT age is, but I'm pushing it another 5 years past where I'm at (and another 5 past that when I get there) haha

I wouldn't worry about the weight, with this heat, fat can't stay forever!

Yeah it does get harder to lose weight as you get older but you're nowhere near that yet. Just keep doing what you're doing & the scale WILL move.
