I used to be a music snob. It used to be important to me to be up on the latest and greatest acts before everyone else heard of them. But, in my old age… I’ve gone soft. No more are the days of hiding my Neil Diamond and Nelly cds in Beatles or Led Zeppelin jewel cases. No, I proudly display everything I’ve got from Mariah Carey to Gordon Lightfoot. No shame, baby, no shame. Life’s too short, right?
One of the things that has shaped this significant change in my music tastes (well besides the fact that I just could care less what other people think about my taste in anything) is because I’m constantly in search of good beats to run to. And I do mean constantly.
And lately, I’ve been struggling to find some good tunes… so… I’m hoping that by posting some of my latest favorite downloads to run to, maybe y’all will share some of yours? Pretty please? (Some of these are old, I know… but they’re new to my playlist).
No One—Alicia Keys. Aside from the fact that this is one of those songs that I completely belt out in the car and pray to god that my faulty speakerphone button on my cell phone hasn’t accidentally called someone (yes, it does this a lot. Not cool), this is a good running song. R&B songs are good to run to. Good beats.
Wont Go Home Without You—Maroon 5. The chorus makes this song. Try it.
Gunpowder & Lead—Miranda Lambert. This song gets me totally amped up. It has a good build up type of beat and then just totally rocks out in the chorus. I am deathly afraid of guns, but this song makes me feel like I could be a bad ass with a shotgun if I needed to be. I try to relate this song to running, instead of killing a low-life, woman beater… “I’m gonna show you what little girls are made of….”
Abel—The National. Again, another song with a good build up to a rocking chorus. This song chants the phrases… “My mind’s not right.” And “I’m missing something.” I like songs about craziness while I run. I dunno what that says about me. Hmm….
Stop & Stare—OneRepublic. Oooooo I love this song. “I think I’m moving but I go nowhere.” That phrase really gets my legs moving. Aside from songs about craziness, I also enjoy songs about feet, legs, etc…
So, yeah, that’s all I got for now folks… any help??

Been Caught Stealing - Jane's Addiction; anything by Cake; Butterfly - Crazy Town; Get the Party Started - Pink; Only Happy When it Rains - Garbage; Queer - Garbage; Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy - Big & Rich. Those are some of the ones I thought would be good...but also depends on your music taste too!
Ok, if you get some good lists...will you post and share them??
I've long since stopped being ashamed of what I listen to(Britney..anyone?). Here's a sample of what I run to..
Christina Aguilera-"Aint No Otha Man","Candy Man"-pretty much most of her latest album("Back to Basics) is awesome to run to.
N'Sync & Backstreet Boys
Justin Timberlake-"Sexy Back"
Eminem-"Lose Yourself"
I second Alicia Keys "No One" & I raise her "Karma" song. Also some of the songs from the "Grease" soundtrack are good to pound the pavement to.
I love Miranda Lambert. My favorite is "Famous in a Small Town."
