I am a proud graduate of the University of South Carolina. And like most alums, I'm obsessed with the athletic programs... from football, to basketball, to baseball, I keep up with it all. Now, what does this have to do with running, you might ask? Well, I decided to run the Memphis Marathon on December 1, back in August. At the time, I knew that the SEC Championship game would be that same day and I just decided to train for the marathon anyway and deal with the scheduling conflict, if I needed to.
A few weeks ago, I came up with a contingency plan. I had to! I googled the distance between Memphis and Atlanta and it was something like 5 hours. The game is at 3pm and the marathon starts at 8am. There is no way I could run the marathon and make it to Atlanta in time for kickoff. So, I perused my marathon options and found that the Huntsville Rocket City Marathon is the next weekend, so I decided that would be my contingency plan.
Ever since I came up with that contingency plan, we've lost two games. So, it's looking more and more like the contingency plan won't be fulfilled. And I know that for my running, that's a good thing, but as a fan.... it really sucks.
run, rest, eat, bitch, buy things, cross-train, blog, repeat.
