New Motivation...

I now have a new motivation for getting up early and running... all thanks to a 2.2 mile run at Moss Wright Park yesterday afternoon in 97 degree weather. Yes, it was the coolest day here in Nashville in 15 days, but it was still 97 degrees.

When I started, I was thinking to myself... hey, this isn't so bad, there's a nice breeze, I can do at least 4 miles this afternoon. And about 8 minutes in... I started to feel a little weird. Like, not tired weird, but like heat stroke weird. And, I'm the type that once I think I'm suffering some ailment, it just continually gets worse and worse. So, I started thinking.... oh yeah, my head is really hurting... i think thats a sign of heat stroke. and then a few minutes later I tried to spit (as I often do on runs.... it always makes me feel better for like 2 minutes) all that came out was string of thick gel that landed all over my shirt and chin and I thought ohhhh shit, I'm so dehydrated that I can't even spit. And then after another few minutes ohhhhhh... I'm feeling nauseuous, that's DEFINITELY a sign of heat stroke. And then for the last half mile on asphalt, I was thinking... oh god, I'm not sweating anymore. I remember a movie one time where someone died from heat stroke and just beforehand, they stopped sweating. I'm going to die in the middle of a 2 mile run. How effing embarrassing. And then I made it to my car and tried to spit. That's right, TRIED to spit. Have you ever wanted to spit, but it wouldn't come out? Yeah, that's what happened after my run. I had to take a swig of water, swish it around and then spit. So, yeah, I'm pretty sure I survived a near death experience yesterday afternoon.... I was THIS close to dying from heat stroke.

So, the lesson learned is this.... Getting up in the morning is way better than running in 97 degree weather with the heat stroke grim reaper following your every footstrike. (I could hear his footsteps, I swear).

This mornings run, while 13 degrees cooler, wasn't that great either. But it was due to stomach issues. Uggh.

Awww...yeah. It's like you go outside for a run and you want it to be cool so you really notice a slight breeze and think its ok. But really, its just hot.
