There is hope and a maybe a light at the end of the tunnel!
Now, let's not get crazy, I didn't bust out a PR or anything (yeah, I'm not quite to THAT shape just yet). But, I ran a 1:55:28. And... ummm... breaking 2 hours for me right now is HUGE. I mean, HUGE.
Steve came out to run the first 10.5 miles of the race with me and I had assumed I'd run something in the range of 9:15-9:30 pace (If I was lucky). But, we started around 8:30s and towards the end, I slipped off a little (9:11s were my last two miles). In my wildest dreams, I had no idea that I'd get anywhere near 8:49 pace for 13 miles. THANK YOU, STEVE!
And yeah, the pace felt like "racing" pace. But, it didn't feel like AWFUL racing pace.
This has been a HUGE confidence booster for me. I am now properly motivated to continue on the path and get fit and back to racing shape... no matter how long that takes me. It should also be noted that I ran this 1:55 while being about 15-20 pounds heavier than my PR of 1:44. So... yeah, there is that. BUT, (and yes, you've heard it here a lot, folks...) I have mapped out some serious diet changes and have started down that path of goodness, as well.
THINGS ARE HAPPENING, PEOPLE. And all it took was 1:55 Half Marathon.
