Bitches do Leadville Part 2

That's a dog.
On top of a building.

The first full day we were in Leadville we decided to do an easy hike to an abandoned Resort on Twin Lakes called Interlaken.
Not staged.
Nope, not at all.

The KoB had done the hike before, but it had been a few years, so we looked it up online and we found 3 different possible distances that the hike could be... 10 miles, 5 miles, 3 miles. We prepared for it to be 10 miles. Better to be safe than sorry, right, folks?

The trail was easy and beautiful.
Of course there were photo stops.

Me and the Hugpost.

Dude pose.

We eventually came upon a bit of a wet trail.

And we had to ford the stream Oregon Trail style.
Thankfully, no one drowned or got dystentary.

After about 45 minutes we came upon the deserted resort and realized that the trail must be 2ish miles each way. Glad I carried 13 pounds of food and water on me!!!!! Sheesh.

 The resort keeper's home.

2nd to last from the bottom
I signed the guest book:
The Run B's

The house was absolutely amazing. It still retained it's original wood floors and it's old iron tub. It also had a crow's nest area above the roof.

Spectacular views of the lake, as well.

Just down from the house, was the resort area.

We checked it out and eventually decided to keep wandering and made it down to the lake.

It was an unbelievably beautiful day and we just enjoyed the views and being together and not being at work.
I even got Melissa to do a cheesy pose.

We hiked back through the streams and mud and even saw an Osprey leaving his nest in one of the trees.

That's the nest in the middle.
Of course the damn thing flew off before I got
my camera out.

We headed back to town and ate pizza at Mile High Pies, where we saw the dog that was on top of the building

Can you spot him?
It was the craziest thing.

Later that afternoon Melissa, The KoB, Jeff and I went to a local running store to join their weekly run. One other girl showed up. The route started STRAIGHT UP and out of town. I was walking by about 3 minutes in.
Eventually Melissa and I peeled off from the group, ran back DOWN into town and jogged around to get 22 minutes or so in. It's amazing how out of breath you are at 10,000 feet.

That night we ate at my favorite restaurant in Leadville

Tennessee Pass Cafe.
Great food and great beers.

Unfortunately, we got seated in a SUPER sunny spot, the place was packed, so service was slow and the kitchen was out of a lot of things.

Sunglasses and strategic body placement were a must.

But, eventually the sun went behind a building, we had beers and food in our bellies and the night got much better.

Chug, chug, chug!

Our first full day in Leadville had been a total success.
