BQ Training Week 3

This was the week that training caught up to me. I just felt kinda run down all week. My legs were fine and my fitness was fine, but I'd wake up in the morning and just be dead. I'm not blaming the general fatigue all on running; work was pretty crazy last week, too. I'm hoping I will get over the fatigue hump this week. I feel like I am perpetually in need of a vacation. Sure, I've had long weekends here and there... but, none of them have really felt like a true re-charge. I'm not sure what it's going to take and unfortunately, the idea of taking an extended vacation right now kind freaks me out because WHAT ABOUT MY TRAINING and WHAT ABOUT WORK? Alas, vacation must wait.

Enough pissing and moaning.

Week 3 workouts
Track: 2 sets of 4x800s @ 10k pace. 90 second recoveries between intervals, 5 minute recovery between sets.
Wildcard: A 6K race.
Long: 17 miles.

I nailed my track workout. And I have to say I LOVED that the 8 repeats were split up into 2 sets. Mentally, it was so much easier to tackle them that way. Unfortunately, the track I go to on Tuesday mornings holds soccer practice for a local college. It wouldn't be a big deal, except they put their water coolers, their training bike, and some of their gear in the first lane. Also, they always do their scrimmages at the part of the track where I start/finish my intervals (which, it just occured to me, maybe I should just start my workout at the opposite corner of the track. Duh). I had to dodge a soccer ball as I was finishing one of my intervals. In general, this is not a big deal, but for whatever reason I just get really pissy at people when I'm doing some kind of speed workout.
With every lap of the workout, I get angrier and angrier. I scowl at the kid who is just basically sitting on the bike (that is taking up all of lane 1!) and not really doing anything. I give the evil eye to the kid who runs onto the track to grab the ball that nearly hit me. I need to loosen the fuck up. Jeez.

The 6K race will, of course, have it's own post (waiting for pics to post). It was a good day and SPOILER ALERT: I beat a celebrity!

The long run I kinda effed up. Technically, I was supposed to run it on a fairly flat course and run the last 4 miles at marathon pace. Instead, I ran it on this course:
Blarg. Hills.

And I only ran the last mile at marathon pace. And, I ran 16 instead of 17. Oh well. I gave myself the excuse that I had raced the day before. The good news is that I felt pretty good for most of this run and maintaining a gluten free Saturday meant my stomach felt fantastic for the entire run. HOW AMAZING IS IT THAT I FIGURED MY GI PROBLEMS OUT!?

After the long run on Sunday, a few of us went to breakfast and we had another celebrity sighting:
Some dude from the show Nashville.

All-in-all it was a good week and I'm finally adjusted to the scheduling of the week, I think. I feel really good about where I'm at right now and where I'm headed in the next few weeks. I'm confident that the fatigue of last week while shake off this week.

I'm pretty impressed that you're throwing down that kind of workout! I mean, 8 reps is no joke.

Thanks! But, to be fair, 10K pace was a lot easier than Yasso 800s would have been. Soooo... not quite as impressive as it sounds.

He (the celebrity from "Nashville") is also a runner. He and I bonded over the absurdity of the Peddle Taverns when we crossed paths near Music Row recently.
