*I did hobble out for a run on Sunday morning. I wore my compression socks in 1000 degree weather. Initially I ran over to the local track (that I am OBSESSED WITH) and thought I'd run a few laps on it, because it's like the only flat place around. So, I jogged over there and when I got there some really fast looking dude was doing a workout there. And I decided that gimping around at a 12 minute pace while wearing compression socks on the track was too embarrassing... even for me.
*After my jog, I met up with part of my family to play a little golf:
Obviously, I'm adopted, as I didn't get the whole
"make your lip look weird in pictures" gene.
Since it was Father's Day, I let my dad analyze my swing. He gave me a tip (that I think he actually just pulled out of his ass) that worked BRILLIANTLY! The horrific slice that I've had for about 3 years now is officially gone.
*Last week was an easy week and this week is an easy week. And you know what... I'm actually OKAY with it. Everyone has been yammering at me about how I needed a break. I kept resisting and being stubborn and stupid, until finally last week, I gave in. And it's been nice. I think the key was, that before I took the break, I figured out my race goals for the rest of the year and knowing that this is really the only shot I have at a break helped put it into perspective.
*That being said... My next goal race was supposed to be a 15k in September. BUT, I just realized that I'm going to be out of town that week. So, I'm trying to figure out what to do instead. Possibly focus on a 5K?
*Ohhhhhh right. My bad, I never told y'all... my next goal marathon isn't going to be until 2013. So, I've got some time between now and October to work on some other race distances. Marathons and I are on a little break right now.
*Except, there is a planned rendezvous in July. FOR FUN. NO TIME GOALS. (Whatdya know? It's just like old times again).
*Aside from a couple of long weekend trips... One in July, a couple in August. I don't have a vacation planned. I was supposed to go to Maine next week for a camping trip in Acadia, but that got cancelled. And everyone in my office is in WEEKLONG BEACH VACATION mode and I'm feeling very angsty, bitter, and jealous. Not that I really want to go to the beach for a week, but I would like a week-long adventure. Woe is me.
*I made a recipe from My new BFF's book last week. The veggie burgers. They were pretty good. Better than other veggie burger recipes I've tried. Last summer, I went through a veggie burger phase where that's all I wanted to eat. I think I might be headed toward that phase again... PM, I might be seeing a lot of you this summer.
*Alright, enough boring shit. Next week... back to training!

Not sure what you're thinking for 2013, but if you want something to ponder, think about Berlin. I'm trying to get a whole bunch of people to run it (I'm actually thinking we might have about a dozen), and then head down to Oktoberfest. The race is Sept. 29, 2013, and registration will be this fall (Oct. I think). Just something for you to consider... It's super fast and would be fun! But after I get through my slow and easy marathon (I hope) this fall, I'm also off marathons until Berlin, and I'm just going to focus on building speed.
And I know what you mean about needing a long-term schedule to force a break. I'm almost always off the first couple weeks of May and the last couple weeks of Dec., but those would be hard to take unless I knew they were my only chance.
There's also going to be a great Mary on the Ubangi Coast of Namibia in 2015! Just a head's up!!
