The Contest

So, usually, the week before a race I have a general idea of what my finish time is going to be. And, truth be told, I kind of have an idea for this race, too. BUT, it still feels like a crapshoot to me. I have never "raced" a marathon before, but I've also never trained this well for a marathon (but, it wasn't even a full-on marathon training cycle). And I've never, not even once, met my expectations for a marathon. So... yeah... awesome. Go Amy!

My current PR is a 4:12:57. But this time around, sub 4:00 is very, very possible and it's what I'm shooting for.

Anyway, I thought it might be fun to see what you guys think...

It's simple. You just leave a comment and tell me what your prediction is for my finish time at the Flying Pig on Sunday. All comments have to be left by 5pm on Friday to count and whoever gets closest to my finish time*, I'll send you a $25** gift certificate to whatever online retailer you want*** for being so awesome and smart!

You should totally enter, because the chances of you winning are very good, considering the fact that I only have like five loyal readers (including my mom who doesn't know how to leave comments. hi mom! look, no F bombs in this post! yet).

 The fine print:
*- In the event of a tie, as in one person chose a time that was 30 seconds faster than I ran and one person chose a time that was 30 seconds slower than I ran, the person who picked the faster time wins. OBVS.
There should not be any other ties. Before you make your guess, just take a quick look at the other 2 comments and make yours different.

**-$25 seems like a pansy amount, I know. But, I'm gonna need some cash for the post race celebration.

***- If you win, please don't be a dick and pick some online retailer that doesn't offer e-giftcards.

Disclaimer: So, initially, I thought that I should exclude my coach and probably my training partner Steve, because I think they probably have a better idea than even I do at guessing my finish time. But, I'm not going to exclude their participation from the contest. I mean, they might train me or run with me, but it's not like they are Nostradamus or some shit. NOBODY really knows what I'll do on Sunday (myself included).

Let the guessing begin! Good luck!

I just happened on your blog for the first time, and, coincidentally, I'll be running my very first (and last) marathon in Pittsburgh on Sunday. Soooo. 3:45. (for you: for me, I'm hoping to get in under 6)

Wow, I'm taking this seriously, I even checked the weather. With the heat, I'm predicting 3:57:26.

Hmmm, that's a toughy. I have run Flying Pig twice and it's a rough course. My first time was the first time I broke 4:00 so I'm going with that time - 3:57:54.

I'm going to go with 3:58:46. I don't know why. It just sounds good, and you'd be proud of that time and I'd be proud of you for that time, so there you go.

Best of luck on Sunday. Kick some asphalt out there! I predict a nice PR finish time of 3:59:40.

I usually read your blog from my iPhone, it's a pain in the butt to leave comments via the iPhone, so that's why I rarely comment. I need to get on my CPU more often.

I hate myself for what I'm about to do.

Disclaimer: my PR was set at the Pig and I've been reading your blog for a while and I think that your training is solid and that you will nail a huge PR.

That said... I'm going to go with 4:02 just because no one else has chosen a >4hr time so I'm playing the odds. **This is not any sort of statement on your training or your abilities, it's simply me trying to win.**

Please now go out there and keep me from winning the contest.

Well, as of right now I'm not sure what your goal time is, really. I'm going to say that you'll cut a good chunk of time off your PR and I'm going with 3:52:10.

I'm going to say considering the hard course and the weather: 4:17:38. Nothing against you...but it's a hard race.

OK, the rule of thumb is half marathon X 2 + 10 min. but giving lee-way for warm temps and because no one else said...3:51. And 3:51:30 if need tie-breaker.
