Hello 2012...

Happy New Year!! I hope everyone had a fun and safe New Years holiday! I sure did. There was plenty of beer, champagne, friends, football, and sparkles!

Sometime around 3am I believe. I was up for 23 hours between Saturday and Sunday.

Sparkles! And Feathers! (Totally LOVE the feathers!!!).

Shitty photo, but I couldn't believe how many people were downtown for the "musical note drop." It was unlike any crowd I've ever seen in Nashville (or possibly anywhere).

Cheering on the Cocks at the bar on Monday! Goooooooo Cocks!

It was the perfect way for 2011 to go out. With friends, with a bang, and with sparkles and champagne. A good year deserves a proper celebration. And proper it was.

So, now with 2011 gone... it's time to move forward into a new year. And I'm not really one to make big resolutions, but I do like to set some new goals or paths for myself.

*Running goals... I basically just want to PR the shit out of 2012.

Aside from running I have a bunch of other things that I want to work on...

*One of my main goals is to be a better listener. I am a good listener already. But, I'm not what I'd refer to as a "full attention" listener. I mean, I'm listening... but I'm probably also thinking about what I need to pick up at the store or I'm watching the couple behind you with their ridiculously cute baby. Or I could even be just waiting for you to shut up so that I can finally tell you what I think. So, this is something that I really want to work on. I want to be better at disengaging from distractions and engaging in conversations fully.

*I also want to continue to work on detachment. To not have emotional attachments to things and people. This is something I worked on a lot in 2011 and had success with, so I'm on the right path, so far.

"The correct attitude of our 'possessions' is gratitude, not ownership." B.K.S. Iyengar.

*And as cheesy at is sounds, I just want to be a better person in 2012. I'm in a great place mentally, physically and spiritually right now and I need to figure out ways to spread that wealth.
"... we believe we are not making a difference. But making a difference is really about the way you show up in the world every day. In fact, know it or not, like it or not, you're already making a difference by your presence. It may be a good difference or a bad difference, a large difference or a small difference, but you had an effect on everyone who saw you, felt you, or heard you today. So the question is not whether you can make a difference, but what kind of difference are you making?" Barbara De Angelis
*And... I also want to read more books this year than I read last year!

What are you going to do in 2012?

Those are awesome resolutions. I really could stand to be a better listener too. I went ahead and made a list of about 10 resolutions, which is about average for me. And my success rate is about 50/50...

I love the book spreadsheet. I am always looking for new things to read so I may be checking out a lot of these. Happy New Year!
