Let's Talk...

...Sports Bras.

I have a confession to make. I've basically been wearing the same sports bras since I started running ohhhhh wayyy back in 2005.  My justification has always been that I'm a two bra-wearer... so, it's okay that the sports bras might be a little "loose."

To clarify... when I say I wear two bras... I mean I literally wear two bras... I wear one ACTUAL bra (I have a bunch of racerback bras without any sport of padding, but they do have underwire) and then I pull on a sports bra on over top.

All the sports bras I own are too big Target C9 bras (with the exception of my race bra... which is some sort of super tight and super awesome bra from Wal-Mart that I can no longer find. And even now... it's not as super tight or super awesome as it once was... 3 years ago).

This was all working just fine.. but lately, I've noticed that the bras (even with my two-bra system) are not doing a good job. When I start running, I feel like I'm flopping around all the over the place. This worries me... I'm 31 years old and my girls are already saggier than I'd like... They need some support!

Furthermore, I wear the same bras for yoga sometimes (alone, not with the real bra) and they're even a little loose for Yoga. TOO LOOSE FOR YOGA.

This is where I'm hoping you come in. I'm willing to finally invest in some GOOD sports bras. At first I was just going to go buy a bunch of the C9 bras from target (in the right size, for chrissakes) and continue on with wearing another bra underneath...

But the thing is.. I don't have that big of a chest. I mean, honestly.. I shouldn't really have to wear two bras. I would call my chest a medium, and I know that there are plenty of women with bigger chests than me running around in just one really awesome sports bra! But, my girls are big enough that I can't get away with just wearing one of the C9 bras on their own. I need a little more support than that!

So... HELP ME. Shout out your favorite sports bras! I realize I could just go out and try on a bunch of bras, but let's be honest.. just because you try one on in a store and kinda jump around and run in place in the dressing room in it... you have no idea how well it's going to perform when you're really out there running. So, I want some REAL life reviews and suggestions!!

My girls and I thank you in advance...

Sorry, I'm small chested. So I buy the bright, colorful Target stretchy bras. I heart them. But go to TJMaxx and you'll find some more expensive Nike ones, etc for cheap!

I'm a 34 B but at 43 years old - I barely have any movement in my chest and NO sagging due to changing out my sports bras every 6 months. Yes, it's expensive...but you gotta protect what you were given!

My fav thus far was the Moving Comfort Melbourne - gone in 2006. So, recently I met with the Moving Comfort rep in Nashville at the half marathon and she fit me in this:

Fits-To-A-T Sports Bra, #320183
www.titlenine.com

It is probably on sale or cheaper at Fleet Feet. Plus, they will fit you and if you hate it, they will take it back! It is by far the best thing ever!! I bought two - not cheap $50 a pop - but come on. You spend $$ on Lululemon? You can spend $$ on the gals.

They fit me in a 34 C for coverage and I am in LOVE with this bra!!

It is a pull over but has a back closure for better fit, molded lined cups, and adjustable shoulder straps. Most awesome thing EVER!!! Go get one or two!!

Like you, I have a fave that's no longer available. It's a Nike style and I have 3 of them bought years ago and I only wear them now for runs OVER 20 miles -- basically each one gets worn about twice a year in hopes of preserving them fo-evah. But daily, I'd say I have a bigger chest than you and I wear a single Moving Comfort Fiona and it works well. Pricier than the Target ones, but I think we run enough to justify the price. And I don't wear them for yoga -- btw I'm up to 7 classes so far!

Ohhh...good post! I'm also in search of good sports bras. I have one Nike one that I LOVE. I got it on clearance at Sports Authority last year, but I have no idea what model it is. All of my other sports bras basically suck.

Step AWAY from the Target bras. I once was a D, now Im a B and Target C9, while cute, no bueno.
Moving comfort makes GREAT jog bras. Love their Vixen. Also love Brooks Glycerin bra and Sugoi Fizz. Try www.runningwarehouse.com for some good deals!

I, too, am 'medium chested'- too big for some things, not big enough for many other things...I love the Moving Comfort Vixen model (it's a racerback, over-the-head thing) and various Shock Absorbers.

p.s. to everyone who can't find a discontinued model- if you know the model # (if it hasn't worn off the tag, that is!) you MAY be able to find it on ebay brand new for cheap. (did this with one of my old shock absorbers that I couldn't find in stores anywhere around here).

I've tried all the fancy schmantcy sports bras, but what works for me is two of the Target C9 bras.
