Waaaaay back in the day (ok like a month ago) I had trouble waking up in the mornings for my run. I tried so many things...like setting multiple alarms, putting those multiple alarms in different places around my room, sleeping in my running clothes, etc...but I just couldn't wake up early for my run on a consistent basis. I'd maybe get up one or two days out of the week.
Not running before work wasn't the worst thing in the world, but I found that I was much happier when I DID run in the AM. Doing so gave me more time to relax, make a nice dinner and spend the evenings with these guys:
Plus, the probability that I would talk myself out of my afternoon run was high. I could always rationalize it by saying to myself...oh, well I'll just run double the mileage tomorrow or I'll just flip-flop my off days so that I don't have to run today. And while that's ok to do every once in a while, it doesn't make for the best possible training regimen. But over the past few weeks, I've just been getting up and getting it done. I've even been waking up early enough to have a cup of coffee before my run and its been great! That first week, I emailed Amy to brag about my waking up early THREE, count em, THREE days in a row! Amazing!
Now its just the way my day goes. And I'm totally digging it.
However, our household schedule is changing. My husband Greg just made a life-changing decision to quit his job, go back to school for his PhD in Economics and become a full time college instructor. Needless to say, his schedule no longer matches my 8-5 day. Now he leaves the house around 6:30am to teach in the morning, has a break in the middle of the day, and attends class a few nights a week. Tonight, I will probably be in bed before he is even home! So today when I woke up around 5:30 for my 6 miler, I realized that it was the only time I'd get to spend with him all day. So....I put off my run until this afternoon and I decided that I would do just that on nights when he's not home. I'm such a good wife:)
Fortunately I won't have to break my ritual of waking up early since I'll still be getting up anyways to spend time with him. Now maybe I'll just have to get into the habit of having a Red Bull around 4:30pm on those days when I head out after work for my run! Plus, it definitely doesnt hurt that the weather has been awesome in the afternoons!
