Weekly Pace Setter: MARGO

This week... get to know Margo better. And be sure to wish her luck at the Marine Corps Marathon this weekend! Go Margo!
Name
Margo (M*J*C)

Blog
Running Towards Myself

I run in...
Saucony Pro Grid Hurricane 10 and Wright Double Layer Socks.

Why I run...
Because I can, it makes me feel good, and because I always thought “I’m not a runner”…now I am.

I've been running for...
I’ve always “worked out” and various parts of that have involved running, back in March I started doing this “Athlete Bootcamp” where we did lots of sprinting, drills, laps, stadium steps, and overall more running than I had ever done. Up to that point the furthest I had run was a 5k. In May I signed up with Team in Training and “officially” started running! So, the answer would be “officially” 6 months!

I am currently training for...
The 2008 Marine Corps Marathon!!!!

Running Pet Peeve
Hands down – women runners that do not wear the correct type of sports bra!!! Seriously, support the girls!!!

Favorite Running Songs
“Sour Cherry” by The Kills
“List of Demands” by Saul Williamson
“Live Your Life” by TI,

Favorite race
Seriously, every race has been my favorite, I LOVE RACES! The Baltimore 10 Miler because that was the first time I ran more than 8 miles and my friends were there, The Ikea Half Marathon because that was my first ½ and my parents and TNT teammates were there, and The Staten Island Half because it was AWESOME!!!!!!

Favorite place to run
North Shore Trail or South Side Trail, or anywhere that there is a race!

Short Term Running Goal
To ROCK my first marathon, the Marine Corps Marathon!

Long Term Running Goal
To run half marathons as often as possible in as many different states as possible!

Favorite Cross-training activity
I really got caught up in the whole running thing that I didn’t really cross-train this year. It was very exciting for me to have something “so new” to do that didn’t involve being in the gym. I’m looking forward to incorporating weights back into my training and I LOVE taking ZUMBA classes!

Post Run Guilty Pleasure Food
On the weekends I did most of my long runs with my Team In Training group and we were lucky enough to have a mentor, Audrey, that owns a catering company. So, often times after the long runs she would have the most amazing spreads set up (stuffed French toast, egg and cheese sandwiches, yogurt parfaits), everything was DELICIOUS! I’ve also been known to crush a Dairy Queen Blizzard after a long run!

Proudest Running Moment
Every weekend after every long run was my proudest running moment! Seriously, week after week I ran farther than I ever had, I was beaming with pride! My proudest moment will be this Sunday at MCM. Every mile after the 20 mile marker will be furthest that I have ever run, and then crossing that finish line…I can only imagine how that will feel!

Favorite inspirational quote
Not so much a quote but a thought – Focus (it’s also the tattoo on my left wrist).

Running Gear Wish List
If I could have a monthly shopping spree at Nike I’d be all set!

What’s the best piece of running advice you’ve ever received?
Listen to your body, go at your own pace, stick to your plan, and drink plenty of fluids.

Favorite Race Fuel
GU Roctane Ultra Endurance Gel Blueberry Pomegranate, regular GU Gel in Vanilla, Jelly Belly’s

Why I love races?
I love the excitement – getting a new top to wear, getting ready, picking up your bib, seeing the other runners on their way back to the finish line before I’m even half way through the race, finally finishing, and the celebration after! I don’t love races because I’m “so fast”, I just love everything about them!

Magazines I subscribe to...
I currently have subscriptions to Oxygen, Vogue, W, People, Maxim, I’m a magazine junkie!

I'd like be vacationing in...
I’m very fortunate that I’ve been able to travel to a lot of great places, but anything “beachy” would be good right now…Aruba would be nice!

I'm listening to...
My “Marathon Mix”

On my nightstand you'll find...
Alarm clock, lamp, bottle of water, dream dictionary, ponytail holders and lip gloss.

Thanks Margo! That tattoo is bad ass! Have a great race and have fun!

Have a great weekend!
