Favorite Cross-training activity

Favorite inspirational quotation...
It doesn't say much. Only 'Howard Roark, Architect.' But it's like those mottoes men carved over the entrance of a castle and died for. It's a challenge in the face of something so vast and so dark, that all the pain on earth-and do you know how much suffering there is on earth?-all the pain comes from that thing you are going to face. I don't know what it is, I don't know why it should be unleashed against you. I know only that it will be. And I know that if you carry these words through to the end, it will be a victory, Howard, not just for you, but for something that should win, that moves the world-and never wins acknowledgement. It will vindicate so many who have fallen before you, who have suffered as you will suffer. May God bless you-or whoever it is that is alone to see the best, the highest possible to human hearts. You're on your way into hell, Howard. Ayn Rand, The Fountainhead

Post Run Guilty Pleasure Food
Pizza, Taco Bell, salt bagels

Running Gear Wish List
Ever since Lil gave me a Garmin, I want for nothing; but new shoes are on the horizon.

Proudest Running Moment
Running in my first State Track meet and running up Grandad's Bluff in La Crosse, Wisconsin. My best friend Eric and I started around 5:30am. The sky was filled with a very bright full moon and the sun started rising as we were ascending. At one point I couldn’t tell if we were running in moonlight or sunlight, but it was amazing. Sadly, the moment was ruined when an inflatable gibbon who had ‘run’ up with us committed suicide by jumping off of the bluff.

What’s the best piece of running advice you’ve ever received?
To focus on staying relaxed and smooth when you are feeling good at the beginning of a race; thusly preventing things from falling apart in the latter stages of a race.

Favorite Race Fuel
Clif Shot Bloks and Roctane Gu

Favorite Candy
Mounds and Dark Chocolate Twix. I keep a candy bowl stocked at my office. Currently there are Mounds, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups (the big ones), 3Musketeers, and pumpkin shaped York Peppermint Patties with orange fillings (same flavor, cool color).

Ninjas or Pirates, and why?
Close call, but Ninjas prevail due to sheer sneakiness. You can always hear a peg-leg coming.

What is in your CD player right now?
Dashboard Confessional’s latest album

What is on your nightstand?
A picture of Lil and I, three orange candles of varying heights, a few books, and shirt stays.

How cool would that be to have a built in running partner for all those moments when you don't want to get out of bed? :)

Good luck on the Chicago Marathon you two!!

Well... I can attest to the shirt/no shirt problem. I would prefer to run with a shirt.... However, sometimes the chafe monster doesn't allow it. So, I end up carrying my shirt the rest of the run. Make sense?

Hi,
I just happened across your blog. I am guessing you live in Nashville too unless there is another race called the Shelby Bottoms Boogie 15k. I am planning on running that this weekend if I can get over my head cold. I have just started running and I am hoping I can do the Chicago Marathon next year. Good luck on your training and marathon!
