Week 12

“But this road doesn’t go anywhere,” I told him.
“That doesn’t matter.”
“What does?” I asked, after a little while.
“Just that we’re on it, dude,” he said.

Alright. So. Since my work computer is BROKEN (hows that for stress?), but I can access the internet from my laptop, I guess, I can go ahead and blog.

I am like half-way through this training period and um… strangely enough, I kind of feel like I am in the sweet spot. I get my schedule of workouts and I do them and they aren’t spectacular, but they also aren’t wretched. I am starting to get little glimpses that my fitness is where it’s supposed to be and that gives me little bits of confidence that I tuck away for February.

Dare I say I am actually ENJOYING this part of my training. The miles, the couple of workouts a week, I was afraid that at this point in my training that I would be HATING life and growling at my coach every time I got my schedule, but that’s not happening at all. WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?

Blah, blah, blah… kittens, unicorns and rainbows. Let’s get to the week’s training:

The workouts:
Hills: 6 x 3:00 minutes. Fuuuuuuck.
Tempo: 6 miles
Long: 14-16 miles.
Total: 60ish.

Goddamn hills. Is there a more demoralizing workout? My pace on this run was SLOW. But, I got them done and while they suck and I hate them, I think they are already paying off. Moral of the story: Maybe how fast you actually run up them doesn’t matter as much as just doing the blasted things. THANK GOD.

So, apparently, I’ve been running my tempo runs a wee bit fast lately. This week, I was instructed to slow the fuck down and try to be consistent. Let’s just say I got a note from my coach on my training log for that day that said: PERFECTION. Boom, bitches!

The long run was a Run Bitches event (sans one Run Bitch) at Percy Warner Park. Over the summer I was slogging it on the 11.2 once a week. Never improving, always stopping to walk up some of the hills, and just being an overall pansy. The past two weekends, I’ve ran the 11.2 as apart of my long run and I’m happy to report that I haven’t stopped and walked and while I slow down pretty significantly on the hills, they are becoming MUCH easier and in general, I’m feeling pretty good on that course. WHOA. I must admit, this is a huge confidence booster for me.

So, yeah, half-way there and instead of freaking out about ONLY having 11/12 more weeks to train… I’m starting to see my training pay off and I’m cautiously optimistic.
