Weekly Pace Setter: Donna

Another Friday... woo hoo.

Name
Donna (Runnermom)

Blog
Of Running and Parenting

I run in...
Pink/gray Asics 2130’s alternating with blue/white Asics 2130’s

I run...
to overcome a lifetime of non-athleticism and to have something for that is just for me. As much as I love my husband and three children, I needed to be more than a wife and a stay-at-home mom. Running gives me that.

I've been running...
1 year, 4 months

Are you training for anything right now?
I’m doing several local races in the next few weeks: a 10K, an 8K, a 5K, and an 8-miler. I think I’m addicted (and broke). I’m also packing my entire house and family of five and moving during that time

Running Pet Peeve
Snot rockets seriously creep me out. Dude, get a tissue. You’ll notice you don’t see girl runners do that (often).

Favorite Running Song
Reparations by Saul Williams I heard it in a Nike Ad (you can find it on You Tube) and it is incredibly motivating.

Favorite race
At a 5K in August, I received 2nd in my age group and a new PR.

Favorite place to run
I like the Rails to Trails area in Ashland City, TN

Short Term Running Goals
To run a 10K in under 1 hr. this Saturday (PR is 1:00:10) and a sub 2:15 half-marathon (PR is 2:15:49) in April at the Country Music Half-Marathon

Long Term Running Goal
To be a lifelong runner; to be smoking the competition in the Senior Games in about 30 years!

Favorite Cross-training activity
One hour of Pilates followed by 25-30 minutes on the elliptical at the Y

Favorite inspirational quote
"It's never too late to be what you might have been." --George Eliot I was always the kid picked last in P.E. (torture) class as a kid. Now I can run 13 miles. And I bet they can’t.

Post Run Guilty Pleasure Food
Buffalo chicken wings with blue cheese dressing

Running Gear Wish List
Warm, fleece-lined tights

Proudest Running Moment
The first time I ran 13.1 miles in training last April

What’s the best piece of running advice you’ve ever received?
“Run your own race.” I tend to compare myself to others way too much. I need to look at how far I’ve come, not at what anyone else is doing.

Favorite Race Fuel
A toasted bagel with a little butter and some honey.
Magazines I currently have subscriptions to
Runner’s World, Glamour, Southern Living, Entertainment Weekly, Newsweek

I'd love to visit...
I’d love to go back to Key West. (What happens in Key West stays in Key West.)

On my nightstand you'll find...
A lamp and a vase.

Thanks Donna and good luck this weekend in your race! (By the way, I'm with you on the snot rockets!)
