This was my first 15k and I really didn’t know what to expect. Like, I’ve discussed before, I’ve come to the conclusion that I really don’t like 10ks. At least, I don’t like 10ks in the summer. So, with this distance being right in between a 10k and a half marathon, I wasn’t sure how it would go.
It was a very chilly morning start, but the sun ended up coming up and it turned out to be really bright, I was regretting not wearing my sunglasses. The first 3 miles, I felt like I was running kind of slow. We passed quite a few people, but then stopped passing people around mile 3. I kept thinking we’d pass the people in front of us eventually, but we never did. The people running this 15k are hardcore runners. They weren’t going to be slacking at the end.
At mile 7, I took a gu and it must have worked because mile 8 was particularly fast. If I remember correctly, I think it was an 8:37 mile.
After running a fast mile 8, I was starting to feel a little fatigued. From 8.5 on, I was feeling tired, but I kept the pace up and ended up finishing with my best pace for a race yet! My overall finishing time was 1:22:18, which is a 8:51/ mile pace!
I specifically smiled for a camera that I saw around mile 9 and was anxiously awaiting its post on their website, but alas… it didn’t make it. Now, if I had looked like I was getting ready to die… they would have posted it.
Here is my race tee:
And here is the only pic of me that the striders had on their website... at the very start. Uggghh.. I look like a creepy little boy or something. (#51 for those of you who are trying to find me but don't recognize me because I look like a little boy).
run, rest, eat, bitch, buy things, cross-train, blog, repeat.
